For a while, I have not paid much attention to GPS units. However, my Uncle Jim was talking about them, I started paying them more notice. What finally convinced me of their usefulness was when we were trying to leave Montreal to come home and spent a *mere* 90 minutes trying to get out of the city and onto the highway. Once we finally were on the highway, Pam said, “Now what about that GPS….” We both agreed that before we took the next family trip, we would get one. To that end, I started poking around on the web for a good place to give recommendations. I’m pleased to tell you, that I found such a website. I really liked this article on how to choose a GPS unit for your car.

We don’t have any family trips planned…so this gives me time to research and watch. If any of you have any recommendations, I’m all ears.

Duel in the Garden

Thanks to Pam’s excellent green thumb, our garden is doing wonderfully! The pumpkins are not only taking over the garden, but the yard! Also the pumpkins and the tomatoes are having a duel. I wonder who will win?

Doesn't it look lush?Pumpkin invasion! Just like her mom's garden used to be. She would be proud of Pam!

Outlook Express and MS Office 2007

Sadly, if you use Outlook Express and MS Office 2007, you will find out that either spell checking does not work or it spell checks in French! This is because some of the language files installed in Office ’07 are not compatible with Outlook Express. There is a third party fix that I have successfully used on my computer. If you are using Microsoft Office 2007 (a very wonderful upgrade!), here’s a tip to make it easier for others to read your files. This week, I helped somebody who uses Word 2007 and saved the document as a .doc. However, because he did not save it as a Word 97-2003 document, others with Word 2003 could not read it…even though they had installed the MS Office 2007 compatibilty pack. Ironically, users of MS Office 2003 could view documents with the .docx extension (the new extension introduced in the new version of Office).

Here’s how to do this:

Click on the Office button.
Choose “Save As”
Choose “Word 97-2003 Document”
